*COVER REVEAL* "Bitter Fruits" by Sarah Daltry

Title: Bitter Fruits (Eden’s Fall, #1)

Author: Sarah Daltry

Publisher: Escape Publishing

Synopsis:

Attending a vampire-themed masquerade party seems like a strange way to spend a night, but Nora is sick of frat parties and bars. Meeting Alec was just a bonus. Despite their immediate attraction, however, Alec is wary of involving himself with Nora, and when she pushes it, she discovers that Alec has secrets that could destroy them both. Is she willing to risk everything for a man she hardly knows? How far into darkness will he take her?

When Nora attempts to follow, however, things grow more complicated. Someone is hunting her - someone tied to a secret that goes back to the beginning of man. Soon, Nora finds herself drawn to two men, each with his own agenda. Can she save them both when one is destined to die?

Excerpt:

He sits in front of me and brings me to his chest. Our flesh is hot and sticky where it touches and I can’t stop the ache between my legs. His breathing is ragged and he tightens his grip on the back of my head as he tries to slow it. I am hurt or angry or frustrated, but I don’t know which. He runs his hands along my entire body and I push against him, needing him and not knowing how to accept his denial.

I want you, Nora. I have wanted you since I saw you. You are gorgeous. However, there are secrets that... Please understand, the steps that you want to take will reveal things. This cannot end well for either of us. I don’t want to make you suffer, but I am fated to suffer. Don’t make me bring you with me into the darkness. I can’t bear to lose you.’

I sense the pain that grips him. The darkness that he speaks of sounds frightening, but I don’t feel fear when I face him and meet his eyes. ‘I will follow you anywhere. Dark or light. Stop trying to make my choices for me.’

Our lips meet again, but it is with doubt. Neither of us knows what will happen if we are to move forward, but I want to have a chance to find out.

My body is still crying out for him but now my mind is calm. I want him, but I want him when he knows that I’m ready for whatever that means. His hands touch me and his caresses are soft. We both slow our breathing and I try to let my will match his. When he pulls away, he gathers the picnic and looks at me with longing and a hunger I do not recognize. It’s not sexual, but desperate. Almost as a dying man looks in the last moments of his life.

In three days,’ he says, ‘I will meet you again at the church where we first met. In the meantime, I want you to look something up and if you do not appear at the church, I’ll know that what you found changed everything.’

Okay,’ I say warily. I’ll do anything he asks, but his fear scares me. What kind of secrets can he possibly hold? Little right now could stop me from going to him in three days.

Find the name Charles Samuels. He was an Oxford student in the 1960s. And then we shall see how much of the darkness you are willing to face.’

I’ll look him up, but Alec, I’m going to be at the church in three days,’ I say.

For your sake, Nora, I hope that you’re not.’

*SPOTLIGHT* The Surrender Trilogy by Lydia Michaels

Lydia Michaels is an author who can put a spin on "typical romance" and make it real to the reader. Her characters aren't always perfect and their "flaws" or situations are of the nature the reader can associate with them. Curvy heroines, a man about to take his vows to become a Catholic priest, single mother and even Amish vampires are some of the stories she has written so far.
Lydia's newest accomplishment is The Surrender Trilogy.

With a dark past that would have shattered most people, Evelyn “Scout” Keats is doing what no one in her bleak world thinks possible—getting off the streets and leaving her impoverished life behind. She’s a new maid at the luxurious Patras Hotel, and aims to keep her job no matter what. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to sacrifice her dignity, or let anyone into her heart. The risk of losing either is just too great.

When hotel tycoon Lucian Patras discovers Evelyn in a compromising position, he uses everything at his disposal to seduce her—a proposition that both surprises and frightens her.

Ignorant to her true circumstances, Lucian relentlessly pursues Scout as a prize to be won. But he is soon given an unforgettable lesson in love and sacrifice when he learns how far Scout has gone to gain her independence and discovers that there are some things money can never buy.

Now and Then by Brenda Rothert Review

From Goodreads:

"Now Emmaline Carson is a sharp, settled graphic designer who loves painting, cooking and girls’ night out with her older sister Layla. But then – in the years before she went to art school in Paris – she was a shy, awkward teenager with frizzy hair, a flat chest and a massive crush on the boy across the street, Cole Marlowe. Too bad her incredibly hot neighbor only had eyes for Layla.
Cole is now a confident, laid-back attorney who’s even hotter than he used to be. He’s planning to stay single while working his way up the corporate ladder – until he’s knocked off course by a chance run-in with Emma.
Everything is different between Cole and Emma now. He finally sees her in a way she only dreamed of, and their hot chemistry is fueled by a growing friendship. But Emma’s deception of her sister – who wants Cole for herself – and the secret Cole’s been keeping for more than a decade threaten to tear apart what’s only just begun. Because sometimes the only thing standing in the way of now is then."

My Thoughts:

What do you do when you randomly run into your childhood crush (read: slight obsession), who you could never have, because he was older.. oh.. and your older sister dated him for a while? Freak the eff out! And then.. try to stay away?! Well, that's what you do when your older sister is.. um.. a bitch.

"A bitch is a bitch. I think that's inscribed in hieroglyphics on some pyramid somewhere. And hotness does not make up for it."

Emma has always had a thing for Cole, since he moved across the street when she was 12 years old. But when you're young, a 2-3 year age difference is huge, so Cole never saw Emma that way. However, he did notice her older sister Layla, who was his age. But now they have all grown up, Emma has settled into her life, and finally has the close relationship with Layla they lacked when they were younger. However, when Cole and Emma randomly run into each other, old feelings come back full force.. for Emma, and for Layla.

"Cole Marlowe hadn't crossed her mind for a while. But just one look into those blue-gray eyes and she was weak in the knees again."

Cole immediately notices Emma in a way that he couldn't when he was younger, and tries to hold back because of the drama it would cause with the families. It doesn't help that her parents, and his parents, are all best friends, and have always rooted for Layla and Cole to be together. As it turns out, it is impossible for him to ignore what he is feeling about Emma, and he starts spending more and more time with her.

" 'Hi' she said, flashing a smile she probably didn't realize was sexy.
Fuck me. I'm in trouble, he thought as he looked at her."

When Emma finally realizes Cole now wants her the way she has always wanted him, she forces herself to take a step back and think about Layla. Layla is intent on chasing Cole down, and making him hers again. But, Cole only has eyes for Emma, putting Emma in an awkward spot while she watches her sister throw herself at Cole. Emma opts to stay quiet about the time she is spending with Cole, to avoid conflict with her sister.

"Why ruin my relationship with Layla and destroy her trust in me just for something that might end in a month anyway?"

When time proves that Emma and Cole cannot deny their feelings towards each other, and old secrets come to light, they have to make a choice about the direction they are willing to let their relationship go.

"How can I ever be without this?"

This book was definitely refreshing! Ordinary people, ordinary lives, ordinary problems. Close families,  sibling rivalry, childhood love (which, by the way, is a weakness of mine). I enjoyed it quite a lot!! It is #1 in a series, and I cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out. Don't worry, this is NOT a cliffhanger. I'm speculating, but I think each book in the series may be about different characters, somehow intertwined? I'm not sure yet, and there is no blurb for book #2 currently. More on book #2 once I know :)

Favorite Quote:

"Maybe I'm not apologizing to the woman standing in front of me today, but to the girl I disappointed. I'll never disappoint you again, Em, I promise."
