*REVIEW* "Deception" by Evie Rose

After years of abuse, Roxi is an expert at deceiving the people around her. Everyone believes she has a picture perfect family, with a loving husband and a sweet little boy. They think she resides in a beautiful house and has a luxurious lifestyle, although, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Underneath the facade is a tormented soul, poised on the brink of giving up hope of ever finding a better tomorrow.

Luke’s past haunts him every single day. Not a second goes by without deep sorrow plaguing him. He will never forget what he’s done, he doesn’t want to. No one is more deserving of guilt eating away at them than he is… or so he believes. He spends his time, forever trying to make up for the one mistake that ruined the lives of his loved ones, as well as his own.

From the first time they meet, cracks begin to form in the mask Roxi wears and Luke sees right through them. The only question is, will he realize he’s worthy of love and step in to save her before it’s too late, or continue to think he’s undeserving of true happiness?

This is not your typical "abused woman, broken man" book. This is a married woman, an abused woman, who has an adorable little boy (who is officially in the running for one of the most adorable book-kids), and a man who can not get over his own past. This is their story, of a chance encounter, that is about to change both of their lives for the better.
" 'I only need you Mummy.'
His sweet words squeeze my heart. How right he is. I only need him as well. All we need is eachother. I was supposed to be comforting him about what's to come and here he is instilling confidence in me. We can do this."
Roxi, want out. NEEDS out. But it isn't completely from lack of strength that she hasn't left yet. She is scared, and has nowhere to go where HE won't find her. So she stays, and meticulously plans her and her son's escape. The only time she has to herself is when she goes for her runs while evil-husband-bastard is at work. A random meeting on one of those runs, gives her what she has been missing. Luke. A friend. Someone to listen. Someone who notices that something isn't right.
"We stare into each other's eyes, and it's like staring into a mirror. Both sets contain the same deep anguish."
So when push comes to shove, literally, and she knows she needs to get out as fast as possible. Luke is her way out, her new normal, and she needs him for much more than a running partner. The attraction is there, but both of them are too held down by their own minds that neither of them are willing to let it go very far. Roxi has more than enough on her plate, and Luke deems himself unworthy of love as it is. And so the story continues..
"I could definitely grow to love this woman, I can't guarantee I wouldn't fuck it all up, but I'd try my damnedest not to. She's worth the risk. I'm worth it. We're worth it."
If I didn't know that this was Evie's first book, I would never have guessed it. The story line has so much depth, especially with the alternating POV's, and the writing is fantastic. Deception will break your heart, and at the same time send a million warm fuzzies shooting right through it. I actually did a happy dance at the end where it says there will be a second book, about alternate characters in the story. I am so excited to read more from Evie Rose!

Quote that gives me chills
"I like it when you smile."
