*REVIEW* "Secret Maneuvers" (Ex Ops #1) by Jessie Lane

Some mistakes from the past haunt us forever... unless fate steps in with a second chance.

One 'dear John' letter haunts Bobby Baker's every living moment. It’s the letter he stupidly wrote to his high school sweetheart, Belle, right after he left to join the Army. The letter that he told her that he wasn't so sure if they were ready for forever yet. But before he can let her know that the letter, and his second thoughts, are nothing but a mistake, she up and disappears from the small Georgia town they were both raised in.

Fifteen years later, Belle unknowingly walks back into Bobby's life when her job as an ATF Agent forces her to work with a group of men secretly headed by the CIA to help her track down whoever is involved in funneling black market weapons to a drug cartel in Mexico.

Bobby will use this mission to try and soothe Belle's hurt feelings while proving to her that their love is still meant for forever. He'll use every dirty trick he's learned since he joined the Army to maneuver her back into his life for the long haul. But Belle's not making it easy as she keeps him at arm's length in the hopes that mistakes of her own never come to light.

My Thoughts

WHAT. A. BOOK!

"Secret Maneuvers" has a love story, super mega twists, heart-wrenching secrets, Military men (helloooo weakness!), crime, mystery, and basically everything I love just tied up into one teeny little package with a hot and sexy cover for a bow!

"Love was a joke. A fairytale that mother's told their daughters while tucking them into bed at night just before the man they swore was their prince charming knocked the living shit out of them because supper was cold."

That was Belle's reality. The cold hard truth of her childhood. The only good thing for her growing up was her spitfire best friend Teagan, and of course.. Bobby Baker. Fifteen years after a truly heartbreaking breakup, Bobby and Belle are face to face again, and forced to work together. Talk about bad luck for Belle, but amazing luck for Bobby. This is a legitimate "lost love" story. They both thought they would absolutely never see each other again.

"Was this some cruel joke from God? Had I not been good enough over the years that I could have been blessed never to see Bobby Baker for the rest of my days?"

Now together again, HUGE.. and I mean huge, secrets will come out of the wood work. Secrets that Belle has held on to for 15 years. This is a pull and push situation between the two of them. Bobby wants nothing more than to get back his Belle, and Belle wishes she could just disappear again.

"No, Belle, you're wrong. No one will ever make me feel the way I do with you. I know this with the certainty that the sun will set today and rise again tomorrow..."

Throughout this book I would feel bad for certain characters, and then 5 pages later, I would want to yell in their faces, then.. I would love them again. There is no sugar-coating in this story. The emotions are true to life, and I loved that about Jessie Lane's writing. There are parts that will make you swoon, parts that will make your eyes well up with tears, and parts that will have you screaming at the pages. But there are also dark parts to this story, and they hit you so much harder, because you are so wrapped up in these characters. This is an amazing story, where even the side characters have your full attention. You feel for every. single. person. in "Secret Maneuvers".

An absolutely amazing read! I can not wait for the rest of this series!

On of the (many) quotes that hit me:

"For a minute there, I got a glimpse of the girl I used to know. Too bad that girl grew up into a deceitful woman without a heart."
