Axel by Harper Sloan Review
From Goodreads:
"Note from the author--This book is intended for a mature reading audience and isn't suitable for younger readers. Brash language, sexual hotness, delectable alpha males, some violence and adult situations are all over this book--you have been warned.
Fate hasn’t always been friends with Isabelle West. In fact, fate has been a downright bitch.
Isabelle has learned the hard way how hard life can be when fate isn’t by your side. It can hand you dreams on silver platters, but it can snatch them right back and hand you nightmares. One thing Isabelle knew for sure fate was consistent with was taking away everything she ever loved.
For the last two years Isabelle has been slowly clearing the clouds of her past. Happiness is finally on the horizon. She has a thriving business, great friends, and her life back. All she has to do is jump over the last hurdle…her ex-husband.
When problems start causing her to fear her new life, and memories that are better left forgotten start rushing to the surface the last thing she needs is a ghost from her past to come knocking on her door.
Axel never thought he would look into the eyes of Isabelle West again, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to now. He’s carried his anger for so long he isn’t sure he can just turn it off, but when he is faced with protecting her and an unexpected desire to have her again, life gets a little more complicated.
How will Axel and Isabelle deal when all their cards are put on the table and everything they thought was true blows up in their faces?"
My Thoughts:
Axel was a great read, hard to put down, downright sexy, and a beautiful story of lost and found love!
Izzy's husband is an abusive bastard, but she has never been able to find a way out of the marriage. One night things go too far, but she finally has a chance to make a break. She calls her best friend, Dee, and thus marks the beginning of her freedom.
"Girl, if you think I will leave you here with that piece of sorry shit husband you are nuts. Nope, no way. We are packing you up and hitting the road. The world is our oyster or something like that."
Now, two years after leaving her husband, she is faced with the fact that he still isn't ready to let go, and will do anything in his power to make sure she knows it. Thankfully, her other best friend, Greg, runs a security company. He is ready to go and more than willing to do anything to keep Izzy safe from her terrible Ex-Husband. Him and his security team are now in charge of keeping Izzy safe.
"That's right, baby girl. Don't worry, Reid's who you need. Him and the boys, between all of us, there is no fucking way that shit fuck is getting his hands on you, got me?"
With Dee and Greg by her side, she is slowly starting to feel a little more confident about all the craziness her Ex is throwing her way.
"I know I am lucky with the friendships I have with Dee and Greg, they are the only two people I have left in the world. The only two people I know would die before they hurt me. They are my family now..."
All is starting to fall into place with "missions protect Izzy", until she meets her new Protectors. One of which, she never, ever, thought she would see again. Axel. Her Axel. Axel and Izzy have a very long history, but that history abruptly stopped once Axel joined the Marines years and years ago. There are always 3 sides to every story, and their story is no exception to that rule of thumb. Now that Axel is back, and has orders to protect Izzy, her life may just get a little more out of control before it starts to get better.
This story line was great! With so many random twist and turns, it kept me reading non stop. It made me want to be a part of this group of friends. My ONLY complaint would be the "Alpha Male Caveman Speak". I've always had a small issue with that. But, Axel didn't go overkill with it, so it wasn't too bothersome.
Also.. Holy sweet Marine book boyfriends!!! Have I mentioned I have a military weakness? ANYWHO..
I'm very VERY excited for the rest of the books in this series. Book 2 will be about Greg, and I absolutely adored him! And for the love of god PLEASE tell me Maddox is getting his own book!! I definitely recommend picking up a copy of Axel asap ;)

Escaping Reality by Lisa Renee Jones Review
From GoodReads:
"Infinite possibilities….
Infinite passion…..
Infinite danger….
His touch spirals through me, warm and sweet, wicked and hot. I shouldn’t trust him. I shouldn’t tell him my secrets. But how do I not when he is the reason I breathe? He is what I need.
At the young age of eighteen, tragedy and a dark secret force Lara to flee all she has known and loves to start a new life. Now years later, with a new identity as Amy, she’s finally dared to believe she is forgotten–even if she cannot forget. But just when she lets down her guard, the ghosts of her past are quick to punish her, forcing her back on the run.
On a plane, struggling to face the devastation of losing everything again and starting over, Amy meets Liam Stone, a darkly entrancing recluse billionaire, who is also a brilliant, and famous, prodigy architect. A man who knows what he wants and goes after it. And what he wants is Amy. Refusing to take “no” as an answer, he sweeps her into a passionate affair, pushing her to her erotic limits. He wants to possess her. He makes her want to be possessed. Liam demands everything from her, accepting nothing less. But what if she is too devastated by tragedy to know when he wants more than she should give? And what if there is more to Liam than meets the eyes?"
My Thoughts:
WOW.. Lisa Renee Jones has done it again. This book had me on the edge of my seat for the ENTIRE story, leading up to the MOTHER of all cliffhangers at the end. I need book two.. I'll be dreaming about book 2 until it comes out in October.
After her life dramatically changed at the age of 18, Amy has been on the run for 6 years now. She is constantly afraid to fully settle anywhere for fear her handler will be in touch, sending her to her next location, which means her newest identity has been compromised. Her secrets could be catching up with her again. She doesn't know anything about her handler other than a tattoo she remembers from the one time he saved her life.. she doesn't even remember what he looks like, and has no way to get in touch with him until he contacts her.
"My name is all that is written on the plain white envelope taped to the mirror...
...'I've found you and so can they. Go to JFK Airport directly. Do not go home. Do not linger. Locker 111 will have everything you need.'"
Signed with nothing but the tattooed symbol, she knows this note means she is in trouble again, and there is no choice but to follow this direction. So off she goes, once again, to her new life, new name, new identity.
Finally on her flight out of New York, she is seated next to "Mr. Tall, Dark, and Potentially Dangerous", Liam Stone. Liam immediately takes a huge interest in Amy, he can see she's running, and has made it his mission to figure out why. During the 4 hour flight they share, it's the start of what will be an amazingly hot and frustrating relationship between the two of them.
"Tell me what I did to make you smile so I can do it again."
Amy knows she shouldn't be getting close to anyone. There is fear for every relationship or friendship she has ever encountered. She does not want to put herself at risk, or Liam at risk, but she just can't keep herself away.
"'This was a mistake. I don't know you. I don't do this kind of thing.' Great. Now he thinks I'm a virgin. I can' get this right. 'I mean I do. No. I don't. I don't do this kind of thing.'"
Liam refuses to take no for an answer. He pushes his way into Amy's life, and she questions every move. Her handler had left Amy's orders for work, and a new background to memorize. But, nothing seems to be what it looks like. New friends, new co-workers, all of it seems off. Liam seems to be the only person she can trust, and she's not too sure how to handle that, either.
"Yes, you're right. I'm being barbaric. And intense. That's who I am and I can't be anyone but me. When I want something, I go after it. And baby, I want you, and all I can say is you might be smart to run before I get any more into you, but please don't."
But with nothing how it seems, is it possible she has put her trust into the wrong person? What doesn't she know? And why are the details of her new life not lining up at all?
Lisa Renee Jones, you have MASTERED the art of cliffhangers, the type of amazing cliffhangers that keep me wondering until the next book. I've mentioned how much I adore twists, turns, and cliffhangers right?? I LOVE me a good cliffhanger! There are so many unanswered questions!! I literally held my breath for parts of chapters, stayed up way too late finishing this book, and couldn't fall asleep easily because I NEED to know whats coming next!! October can't come soon enough.
Favorite Quote:
"Tell me who's scaring you and I promise you, Amy, I will make them go away."
LOOK FOR INFINITE POSSIBILITIES (book 2)
Coming in October
Quick Blurb from GoodReads:
"Liam left her world spinning, pulled her into passion and gave her a sense of belonging and hope she desperately needed. But did he have alternative motives? Did he want more than passion? "

Stardust by Mimi Strong Review
From GoodReads:
"There I was, minding my own business at Peachtree Books when this lunatic comes racing in the door and knocks me into his arms. I would have ripped him a new one, but he was kinda familiar, and hot. Like I-want-to-have-your-sexy-babies-now hot.
Turns out he looks familiar because I stare at his gorgeous face on TV every week. Yup, Dalton Deangelo. In the oh-so-firm flesh.
I let him hide out from the press for a while, then I thought he'd be on his way, and I could breathe normally again. But no. He found me interesting. He wanted to tag along to my cousin's wedding with me. I couldn't say no to that face ... or THOSE EYES. Before the night was through, he was saying sweet things, then dirty things. Very dirty things.
I try to keep my eyes wide open. I've made terrible, stupid mistakes in the past. But Dalton Deangelo's touch turns me to Jell-O.
I'm just a regular girl, and he's rich and famous with no body fat. The guy has a butler! So, why is he chasing me? And why can't I say no? And what is this sordid secret of his the reporters are trying to uncover?"
My Thoughts:
Looks like I'm updating my Summer Must-Read list! This was definitely the type of lighthearted, funny, and sexy book perfect for the beach!
Picture this... Wallbanger by Alice Clayton, meets Love Unscripted by Tina Reber.. HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG!? You can't, you simply can't.
Peaches Monroe is a hilariously down to earth girl. She is funny as hell, and I can definitely relate to her on more levels than one. I absolutely loved her as a main character. She had me laughing the whole time.
"I'm the girl you ask to come over and give your cat his daily pills while you're on vacation. And, by the way, I don't like the way your cat looks at me. Like even he knows I'm the dull one. One of these days, I'm going to drink some wine and flash my boobs at your cat - really give him something to think about."
While at work one day, she literally falls right into the arms of Dalton Deangelo. While she doesn't initially recognize him, sans his Vampire teeth from his hit TV Show, she does immediately feel comfortable in a way she's unsure of. They hit it off like they have known eachother for years. The banter between these two is refreshing.
"'How old are you?'
'Twenty-two. But I've seen things.'
'Sure you have. But have you done things?'
'A couple of things.'
'Good!' He tucked away the handkerchief and offered me his elbow. 'I'm only into dating girls who've done a couple of things.'
'Dating? I thought we were future old friends.'
'This is how we get there,' he said...."
Once it clicks as to who he is, she cannot comprehend that this major actor would be into a regular old small town girl like herself. As he pushes to spend more time together, she constantly thinks it will be the last time. But he is persistent, and will find any way possible to see her again.
"I started to worry he was going to kiss me. Or not kiss me. Either way, I was in big trouble"
They eventually fall into a comfortable something-like-more-than-friendship. But when reporters come around with a vengeance, secrets are slowly coming out, and so are gossip columns, it is a test of if there is a future at all between them. And what happens when the movie he is shooting in her small town is over? And why does it seem like everything is flowing so easy for this small town girl/movie star guy, even with everything getting in the way?
"'Just be yourself,' I whispered to myself. 'Except be more fucking charming and not so weird. And stop talking to yourself'"
To add to the humor in this book, Peaches roommate/cousin/best friend Shayla, is the perfect wing woman. Every girl should have a friend like her (if you aren't the friend like her). She is constantly pushing Peaches into weird situations, and their conversations had me rolling on the floor.
"(after a text conversation)
Shayla replied with a string of emoticons implying a series of adventurous sex acts, involving vegetables."
All the side characters in this book are awesome. Her parents are great! Her and her mom's relationship I can completely relate to, and her father is downright funny. The old friends they run into along the way add a perfect amount of back-in-the-day backstory to the book as well.
Stardust is a light, fun, quirky, and a good time read. I highly suggest it to anyone!
*WARNING* It does leave off at a cliffhanger.. and my god, it left me begging to know what happens next!!
Book 2 is set to be released in Fall of 2013, no set date yet.

Emerge by S. E. Hall Review
From GoodReads:
"Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her, Evan having protected and coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.
Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.
A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love...and life.
Mature content."
My Thoughts:
I needed this book. After all the heavy ones I've been reading, Emerge was the breath of fresh air I was looking for!
This is a story about every day people, with typical lives. Highschool graduation upon them, and college just the summer away. Laney and Evan have been best friends since they were 10 years old. However, college threatens to tear them apart, there's a chance they will be heading in two different directions, and everything is about to change.
"There really isn't a more comforting sight than my Evan."
Now off at college, Laney is trying to adjust. She has a new softball team to work with, a decent class load, and a bouncy roommate that thankfully reminds her of home. However, when Dane walks into Laney's life, her world is about to change more drastically than she imagined. He is the complete opposite of her Evan, and she has no idea why she is so drawn to Dane.
"This guy seriously belongs on the cover of 'World's Sexiest Reasons to Drop Your Panties.'"
Now it is a battle of new vs. old. Comfort vs. the unknown. Guilt vs. true feelings.
Can you say goodbye to the only thing you've ever known, for something you barely know anything about? Is it possible for no one to get hurt in the process? Is it okay to move on? Or is it the best to stay with what you know?
The group of friends that forms in this book are amazing. All of them. They each play such an great role. Families are close, friends are closer, and they all fall into their lives together quite easily. Even Laney's father is the perfect book-dad. Laney and her dad have a very tight bond, he is her number one fan. He is always there for her in just the ways she needs him to be.
"My dad rocks, there's no ifs, ands or buts about it. I adore that man and no matter what else happens, ever, I got damn lucky there."
Emerge, was awesome, plain and simple as that! There's the perfect amount of drama, real life feelings, and humor, to keep you turning page after page, which I did.. until 3am. Yep!
Not to mention, HOLY mother of all book boyfriends! Talk about being torn! That's right, there are TWO amazingly swoon worthy guys in this book. I'm actually still undecided on who I was routing for, because really, they're both perfect for her in their own ways. Even the not-so-main-male characters are awesome! Sawyer and Zach are just as great! (psst.. can they get spin off books? PLEASE!)
Emerge leaves off at somewhat of a cliff-hanger.. as in book two is DEFINITELY needed. There is WAY more to this story, and so many unanswered questions about certain characters. I need to know what happens next!! I am definitely looking forward to book 2!! We even get a sneak peek of it at the end of the book.. and it will literally pick up EXACTLY where Emerge leaves off.
PERFECT!
Congrats to S. E. Hall on her debut novel! It was a great one!
Cannot wait to see more from her :)
Book 2 will be out in October 2013!!!!
Favorite book Quote:
"I love her more than any man has ever loved a woman, I'm sure of it. I've loved her since the first time her little tomboy ass smarted off to me, when she was all dirt and elbows. And now, she's a goddess."

Escaping Reality by Lisa Renee Jones is officially available!!
Escaping Reality is out today for Kindle users!!
New Book and start to a new series by Lisa Renee Jones! Looks great :)
I will be reading and reviewing this one over the next couple of weeks!!
