Dangerous Ally by Michelle Grey Review

From Goodreads:

"Lacey Jordan is expecting dinner, and hopefully, an engagement announcement. Not her own, of course. After two serious screw-ups, she's all but sworn off relationships. When she arrives at her father's house to celebrate his future happiness though, he's nowhere to be found. As the hours pass, the worst scenarios Lacey's mind can conjure send her rushing into action. However, reality proves even more frightening as she discovers that her father's recent scientific breakthrough is one that people would kill for. To make matters worse, the source of the information is the one person she'd hoped to never see again. Caleb Mansfield, her father's former protege and her former lover, needs Lacey's cooperation, and the very trust he'd stolen years before. But Lacey can't be certain if Caleb's working with her or against her. Running out of time, she has nowhere else to turn. As the trail leading to her father narrows, Lacey becomes a target, risking her life to save him. Too late, she understands that with Caleb back in her life, she's risking her heart as well."

My Thoughts:

If you've read my "About Me", you know that I'm a sucker for crime/mystery. Add that to a romance story, and you have yourself one of my favorite things! Dangerous Ally delivered exactly what I hoped it would, after I read the blurb for the first time!

Dangerous Ally starts with the action from the very first chapter. After heading over to her fathers house for dinner, Lacey soon discovers that her father, Bill, is nowhere to be found. Finding his cell phone still at his house, it is official. Lacey's father, is a missing person.

When Bill's cellphone starts ringing, the whole situation is about to take an awkward turn. Caleb Mansfield is on the line, and had no idea of Bill's disappearance. After a short lived-love filled summer years ago, between Lacey and Caleb, Bill and Caleb have kept in touch. Bill has been somewhat of Caleb's mentor throughout the years, trusting him with things he would trust no one else with. So, the news that he is missing puts Caleb immediately into action.

With Caleb determined to help Lacey find Bill, she soon finds him at her doorstep. Caleb has far more information in to what could be the reason for Bill's disappearance than Lacey does. However, she cannot let go of the fact that he broke her heart all those years ago, and she has absolutely no trust in him. In her eyes, he had done her wrong, and the last thing she wants is his help.

"Pretty simple really. I thought we were in love. I was wrong. I thought we were going to spend our lives together. Wrong again. He left and that was it."

When the situation starts to become even more complicated, Lacey has no choice but to put the past aside, and let Caleb help. She's in trouble.. and so is her heart. Not to mention, that Caleb, himself, isn't even sure how to work through this with her. He thought he was past the summer of Lacey, but can old flames be re-lit?

"Until now, he'd never considered why none of the other women he'd dated over the years had been long-term. But now, it hit him right between the eyes. None of those women were Lacey."

A surprising break in the investigation forces them to even closer quarters, more issues, and the possibility of Lacey being a target. Now, Lacey really needs to get her head on straight, but can she get her head and her heart to agree?

Dangerous Ally was un-put-downable! Between the mystery of Bill's disappearance, the back and forth of Lacey and Caleb, PLUS all the side stories that were interlaced, Michelle Grey has produced one fantastic read. There are so many twists and turns, I was constantly pointing my finger at a different person each chapter! I very much look forward to reading more from Michelle!
