5 HUGE STARS!!
From GoodReads:
"For Savannah Rae, living life without her parents was unimaginable. But being blamed for her first love’s suicide? That destroyed every part of who she was.
Gone were the days of innocence, happiness, and dreams. Now her days simply meant attempting to survive. In her mind, her only means for that was replacing her grief with men, booze and the fast life. And for five years, it worked.
When an opportunity to leave the nightmares of her past in Australia opens up, she takes it. Los Angeles beckons - with hopes of late nights, new beginnings, and the promise of a string of endless men to distract her, she can’t wait to dive in.
One thing she didn’t count on was meeting her match.
In the eyes of outsiders, Tate Connors has it all; the ultimate LA bachelor who is content with his lifestyle of wild nights, women and one night stands. He's Mr. Unpredictable with looks that could destroy any woman with one glance.
The craziness of Los Angeles throws them into the chaotic path of each other. Savannah becomes the perfect game, and Tate becomes the ultimate prey. Lines are crossed, emotions are smashed, and the idea of who they truly are begins to be tangled.
However, one thing will become clear.
They are more alike than either one could ever have imagined."
My Thoughts:
Let me just start off by saying that Just Breathe had me hooked from 3% in. Everything about this book was perfectly written and amazingly thought out.
Savannah is such a strong main character, with a background that is absolutely less than perfect. After losing her parents at a very young age, and being blamed for her ex-boyfriends suicide, she is taken under the wing of her fathers best friend, Mr. Davenport.. or should I say Simon? She ends up working for Mr. Davenport, and he has helped her find her way, since her life was turned upside down. The relationship between these two is absolutely hilarious, it's somewhere between big brother/little sister, and father/daughter.
"Savannah Rae, stop eye-fucking the immigration officer!" - Mr. Davenport
(ps.. I love him haha)
When an opportunity within their company comes up, for them both to move from their homes in Australia and to Los Angeles, they jump on it, and off they go to a new beginning, a beginning that Mr. Davenport hopes will be a very big change for Savannah.
"This is a new start for you, Savannah. I want you to leave everything in Sydney. No one knows you or knows your past, and you don't have to tell anyone anything."
Savannah makes a promise to Mr. Davenport, that she will try to start from fresh while in LA. No more random men, no more drinking to forget, no more shutting down. Savannah is a man eater, and she't not afraid to admit it. However, that promise evaporates almost as quickly as she says it. The second she gets to her new apartment building and lays eyes on Mr. Perfect Prey, Tate Connors, she immediately sees her new target.
"My green eyes locked with his deep blues across the foyer and I gave him my famous seductive smirk. I had to be on game; I had to pull him in. Savannah Rae, do what you do best, I chanted to myself."
Little does she know who he actually is, and the crazy road she is about to head down. And even more so, how similar the two of them actually are. Tate Connors, Savannah Rae.. you two have definitely met your matches.
"He was attacking the walls I had put up with a sledgehammer and I couldn't do a damn thing about it."
Every character in this book plays such an amazing role. Even though Savannah is the main character, everyone else is so involved, that is almost a story of all of them. It's a story of how each of them has an effect on each other once Savannah arrives in LA.
I fell in love with each and every one of them.
Mr. Davenport, the hilarious..
Tate, the bad boy.. the untouchable.. (the new contender for the role of my book boyfriend..)
Tanzi, the amazing new BFF..
Jack, Tanzi's boyfriend who has the worlds worst timing.. always..
Lucas, the sweet one with a heart of gold..
Ali, the quiet one with a head on her shoulders..
What I DIDN'T know when I picked up this book, is that it is the first to a series. Just Breathe, doesn't leave off at exactly a cliff-hanger. It leaves off at a point where you know the story isn't done, and you are dying and clawing at the book and screaming "WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!?!". Well done Miss Rachel.. well done..
Now, I'm not sure how many more books there will be.. but Rachel Brookes.. here's what I'm asking you....
Please give me at least two more books about Savannah and Tate..
then a couple about Lucas..
and at least one about Jack and Tanzi.
Seriously, I absolutely LOVE Rachel's writing. HUGE HUGE Congrats to her on her Debut!! It was a killer read, and I am so looking forward to reading more from her!!
I will keep everyone updated via twitter (@illbereading) and the blog when there is more info about book #2!!
